John T. ("Jack") Eason was born in Georgia in 1843.

John enlisted in Company E, the "Miller Rifles," of the 8th Georgia Volunteer Infantry on May 14, 1861. He was wounded at the Battle of First Manassas, Virginia, July 21, 1861. John was captured at Turkey Bend, Virginia, on August 1, 1864. He was released at Elmira, New York on June 10, 1865.

His brothers, Ewing M. Eason and James Rice Eason, also served in Company E ("Miller Rifles") of the 8th Georgia Infantry. James Rice Eason was born in Georgia in 1835.

Another brother, Richard H. Eason, was born in Georgia in December of 1837. He was a Corporal in the "Chattooga Volunteers," Company B of the 9th Georgia Regiment. He moved to Wise County, Texas by 1900. His wife was Narcissus, born in December of 1841 in Georgia, and their son Charley H. was born in February of 1879, in Georgia.

The four Eason brothers' parents were John G. Eason and Martha Townsend, who both died in Floyd County, Georgia.
