Wondering about who we are?
LHF is not an Anabaptist group per se although many come from an Anabaptist background,
have served with Mennonite Central Committee (MCC), or have an attraction to the
Anabaptist faith. We consider ourselves to be interdenominational in character. Although
there is not consensus regarding pacifism, the congregation has a strong leaning toward
justice and peace ministries. We believe we are seekers/disciples together, a community of
faith striving to bring God's rest and justice to those around us in as many ways as we
have members. We believe in faithful stewardship of God's creation as evidenced in lives
of voluntary simplicity.
Our mission is to love and serve God and our neighbors as Jesus explained to the law
expert in Matthew 22:37-40. We are together precisely because we believe in the collective
building of the community of God/the community of believers on earth. We take seriously
the responsibility to co-minister with and to one another. We strive to acknowledge a
variety of personal experiences and journeys, believing that each covenanting and
participating member is honestly searching for knowledge of God and for the translation of
that knowledge into a life of love, service, and simplicity. We are together as a
church-community to support and enable each of us to pursue lives of faith and service
with strength and joy. LHF has a strong shared belief in voluntary simplicity with over
50% of our budget going to missions rather than to self-sustainment. We have provided a
church home and family for people who have felt in the margins in more traditional church
Leadership role and gifts
LHF has a strong emphasis on lay leadership and has never had a formal pastor.
