2 CONT When he died in 1911, Ludwig Bojarski, Morgovnik and Henry Osik, a Smith, both from Kushkovo-
2 CONC Kmiece announced his death, claiming that he was a "Zemledelec".In Russian Zemledelec meant "
2 CONC agriculturalist". The word may have had another meaning in Polish.

2 CONT A clue to the meaning of Zemledelec, should it carry another meaneng than that of "agricultur

2 CONC ten in Russian until sometime between 1864 and 1883 although this area was allegedly under Ru

2 CONT The municipal birth registration for Jan Welenc contains an interesting remark on the margin
2 CONC s of the bith registration written at a right angle to the body of the document.

2 CONT "12:00 Midnight. A mistake was made in the carrying out of the signatures. The dcuemt was sig
2 CONC ned by us". The trouble is that all the parties as in every single document the owner of thi
2 CONC s site examined claim to be illiterate, and the Provost Marshall/parrish priest di dsign th
2 CONC e document. It is also doubtful if he was up in the dead of winter at 12:00 Midnight in a vil
2 CONC liage examing birth registrations by candlelight.

1 NOTE Walenty Welenc first appears as a "Kopczarz" in Dunaj. The word has at least two meanings, th
2 CONC e second of which pertains to someone who takes over the land the upon clearing it. The famil
2 CONC y may have been new settlers in Dunaj. He is later listed as "Gospodarz" in the records perta
2 CONC ining to the birth and death of his children. The word Gospodaz has other meanings such as La
2 CONC ndlord, Master, Host ect, all relating in one way or another to "property". From the historic
2 CONC al archives a Gospodarz seems to have been a freeman who paid a rent and kept all profits fo
2 CONC r the land himself. The title seems to have died out after the reforms of Czar Alexander II o
2 CONC f 1864, and freeing the peasants.

2 CONT A clue to its exact meaning in this period of time might be the fact that this area seems t
2 CONC o have contained an above average no. of names with the ending "ski", who were at least unti
2 CONC l the middle 1800's aristocrats. They appear as witnesses to births, marriages ect in these d
2 CONC ocuments and are described as Gospodarzes.

2 CONT It is noteworthy that his that his brother,Stanislaw, born three years before him was liste
2 CONC d a "Gospodarz" in the church records while Walenty was still a "Kopczarz". Perhaps "Kopczarz
2 CONC " also carried a figurative meaning.

2 CONC l who were apparently born in Dunaj Zurominek, Mlawski, Poland in the late 1700's. The oldes
2 CONC t document that I have obtained containing his name and that of his wife's, Urzula (Latin Urs
2 CONC ula), was found in the Catholic Church Book of Registered Births, 1790 to 1826 in the Catholi
2 CONC c Church Archive in Plock, Poland. The entry is for the birth of his daughter Katrzyna, (Lati
2 CONC n- Catherine) in 1790.

2 CONT At this time I have not been able to obtain the records which would indicate if he was indige
2 CONC nous to Dunaj or a new settler there. In any case a according to names.com a coat of arms i
2 CONC s associated with the name Welenc and it's variants which include, but are not limited to Wel
2 CONC eny, Wielicki, Walenczak, Wielanczyk. The blazon is Shield: Gules, on a terrace vert a ram st
2 CONC antant argent. Crest: Five ostrich plumes proper. Origin : Poland, Approx date: 1515.The appe
2 CONC llation developed form the short form of several old polish personal names, such as "Wielimir
2 CONC " and "Wielislaw" which were om the themselves dervied from the Polish word "wiele" meaning g
2 CONC reat. It may also possible that the name dervied from a Polish form of the personal name "Val
2 CONC antinus" which in turn was based on the latin word "valens" meaning "healthy" or "strong".

2 CONT According to names.com thier source for this coat of arms was "Armorial Polonais". However af
2 CONC ter an investigation of the source, this coat of arms does in fact belong to "Wielicki", a fa
2 CONC ct to which names.com now admits. Contrary to names.com assertions, no evidence has been pres
2 CONC ented by them that "Welenc" is in fact a variant of "Wielicki". Even if it should be a varian
2 CONC t, this hardly means that that name has the right to use this coat of arms.

2 CONT They also assert that one of the oldest references to the name is one of it's variants is a r
2 CONC ecord of a Veil Weleny, a Silisian Goldsmith who died in 1515. There is in fact a record o
2 CONC f a catholic family in in Breberen, Rheinland, Prussia in the 1760's by the name of "Welens"
2 CONC . One of them was coincidentally Francisus Welens born in 1766. No connections between the fa
2 CONC milies however has been made at this time.

2 CONC om 1792 to 1822 for this area written in Latin. There are several other Welenc's in this regi
2 CONC ster, prbably cousins of Walenty and his brothers.  The book seems to have been through a flo
2 CONC od making it difficult to read with a limited amount of time.
