Student Dates & Info to Remember:

1. Now accepting new dedicated Advanced Students for 2009 performance year. See link to Bellydance Classes Buena Park for complete class description.

2. 2008 costumes for Intermediate and Advanced Bellydance classes will consist of a Turkish Cabaret coined or coined/beaded Cabaret bra and belt set, two six yard full chiffon skirts (1 1/2 circles each) and 3-3 1/2yd. chiffon veil matching or contrasting in color. Decorated headband for sword balancing (to be handmade). More details below.

3. Date for KAMAR AND JEWELS OF FIRE (Intermediate and Advanced Classes) to performance at LA Co. Fair is on Sunday, September 20, 2008. Time: 3:30pm Stage: Plaza de las Americas Stage (Near Gate 8)

***NEW BELLYDANCE STUDENT INFO***

(For all Classes taught by Kamar)

WHAT TO WEAR TO CLASS:

1. Comfortable workout clothes such as leggings, leotards, workout pants, harem pants, long full skirts, midriff tops, tank tops, form fitting tops or bra tops. (No baggy shirts) Bellydance costume pieces are encouraged but not required. It is more fun when you dress the part.

2. Ballet shoes, Hermes dance sandals, half soles, leather bottomed sandals, sox with non-slip bottoms. Bare feet are OK but not all dance floors are created equal. NO tennis shoes or rubberized street shoes.

3. Hip scarves, fringed shawls or beaded/coined dance belts are highly recommended.
WHAT TO BRING TO CLASS EVERY WEEK:

1. A 3 yard veil made out of soft fabrics such as georgette chiffon, silk or soft lightweight cotton. May be homemade or purchased. Be sure to re-measure your fabric before sewing. some fabric stores give you a little more than you ask for.

2. Set of zils (4) (finger cymbals). Any size. Don't buy cheap ones with round hole. Replace any round elastic with flat elastic.

3. A hip scarf, shimmy belt, fringed shawl or costume belt either purchased or homemade.

4. Pack your veil, cymbals and hip scarf in a carry bag to bring to class every week.
Music:

1. Practice and choreography CDs are available for a service fee of $3.00 each or any two different ones for $5.00.

2. Music can be purchased at Borders Books and Music or Amazon.com for videos & music. PEKO Records on-line Middle Eastern Music Store. Itunes also has Bellydance music.
COSTUMES:

1. A costume making class is offered free once a year in the Spring for all Buena Park Students. Anyone can learn to make a simple costume from these classes. There is a $5.00 fee for all non-Buena Park Students.

2. Costumes may also be purchased on-line and at local Middle Eastern Bellydance functions. See KAMAR'S BELLYDANCE HOMEPAGE link for links to on-line vendors.

***COSTUME REQUIREMENTS FOR 2008***

Skirt and Headband Fabric and Supplies

1) Sword Balancing Headband:

a) ½ yd. stretch fancy fabric
b) Sequin or braided trim and/or other décor
c) Padded Bridal headband (JoAnns)
d) Combs or stretch comb headband (Scrungie)
e) Waxed dental floss and needle
f) Straight pins, scissors
g) Hot glue gun and glue sticks with small extension cord

2) Two Contrasting Full Skirts and Contrasting Veil:

a) 6 ½-7 yard georgette chiffon (rough transparent chiffon) X 2. Print or design OK
b) 3-3 ½ yard georgette chiffon for veil.
c) Matching thread for all
d) Trim for bottom edge or rolled hem
e) Non-roll elastic ½ - ¾ in. enough for your upper hips snug.
f) Package of 2 inch lace seam binding for waist casing
g) $25 deposit for each skirt to be made.

Intermediate Class (Monday - 7pm)
***2008 Performance Year:

1. Any coined with or without beads Turkish style Cabaret Costume, two 6 1/2-7yd. chiffon skirts with slits or openings.

2. Matching rectangular veil lightly trimmed (no heavily beaded veils). No silk veils this year.

3. Those performers who will be constructing their own costumes will need to make sure that ALL skirt and veil edges are finished off with hems, serging and/or trimming.

4. Cymbals will be required.

5. Capezio footless dance tights and dance trunks are mandatory this year. These can be purchased at any dance supply houses like Dance Rax and Hills Capezio. (Capezio Support Footless Dance tights)

** All costumes require approval by Kamar.

***Our goal is to have a finished professional look without the homemade look.
Advanced Class - (Thursday 8pm)
***2008 Performance Year

1. Any coined with or without beads Turkish style Cabaret Costume, two 6-6 1/2yd. chiffon skirts with slits or openings.

2. Matching rectangular veil lightly trimmed (no heavily beaded veils). No silk veils this year.

3. Those performers who will be constructing their own costumes will need to make sure that ALL skirt and veil edges are finished off with hems, serging and/or trimming.

4. A decorated headband for sword balancing. These will be made in a separate makeup class. TBA

5. Cymbals will be required.

6. Capezio footless dance tights and dance trunks are mandatory this year. These can be purchased at any dance supply houses like Dance Rax and Hills Capezio. (Capezio Support Footless Dance tights)

** All costumes require approval by Kamar.

***Our goal is to have a finished professional look without the homemade look.

***FOOTWEAR for ANY and ALL Performances - Please note that jazz shoes and ballet shoes are not considered appropriate footwear to wear with fancy Bellydance costumes. Only half soles, Hermes sandals, character shoes, dress flats, dress heels and ballroom shoes are acceptable footwear other than bare feet.

***ALL Performers must wear footless dance tights (Capezio Footless Support Dance tights - Nude or Tan) and dance trunks under costumes that show the legs. NO EXCEPTIONS.

***Certain Performers may require a bodystocking under costumes. See Kamar for an honest opinion.

***Please be advised that all performances and choreography are subject to change if students wishing to perform do not attend classes regularly.
