Weeping Muhly (Muhlenbergia duboides)

Weeping Muhly (Muhlenbergia duboides)

With the help of his friend, Dr. Alan Zimmerman, Dan tracked down this Muhly growing at 5,000 feet elevation in a remote canyon in central Arizona. An uncommon to rare grass, its insignificant description in the technical literature belied its future ornamental potential. From a few seeds, Dan propagated the plant and introduced it to the nursery trade in 1994, naming it Weeping Muhly for its handsome and distinctive habit.

Weeping Muhly is striking in mass plantings on slopes in sun or mottled shade. The plant is extremely drought tolerant and performs best with irregular irrigation.
