My wife and I travel to New Orleans every year to attend a krewe ball (a
white tie affair where the debutantes are presented and members of the krewe parade and present a tableau (usually a political parody).
I am fascinated by the French Quarter (the oldest portion of the city - though not very old by world standards). There is
a constant cycle of decay and renewal happening here. I started painting these works prior to hurricane Katrina. The French
Quarter was relatively unaffected by the storm owing to being relatively on high ground. However much of the city has been
decimated and many folks have left - perhaps never to return. The city will continue, however none can say whether for better
or worse.
