I would describe the music as jazz. Jazz these days, like any genre, includes everything from the ridiculous to the sublime, so it is hard to categorize individual artists or groups. It does swing frequently, and improvisation is a focus. However, many different influences abound, so it certainly veers from the bebop or hardbop genre. You won't find standards here, and you won't find re-writes of standards. But rest assured this is not smooth jazz! Nor is it fusion in the common sense of the word. It also is not avant garde either. I work hard at the compositional aspect of the music-the tunes should hold up apart from the improvised solos. But solos are on the disc in abundance, from myself, Erik, and Micah.
