While small by State standards, this undeveloped pond is Freeport’s largest
freshwater body. It provides prime waterfowl and wading bird habitat and a stopover point for many migratory species. American
bittern, a species of special concern in the northeast, breeds in the area – a rich mix of forested wetlands, seasonally
flooded shrub swamps, and aquatic beds.
Directions: From Exit 20 in Freeport, head north on Route 125 (Wardtown Road)
approximately 3 miles. After passing Laughing Stock Farm on the left, look for a Florida Lake sign on the right (immediately
before the chicken barns). A short gravel access road leads to a designated parking area.
