It's only a week since my last update, but this is too good to wait!!! Diane had a few days off in a row, so we decided to return to the most beautiful spot on the planet, Yosemite Valley. I posted some pictures on the updated website:

http://home.earthlink.net/~mmglobal1/index.html

I also added some underwater shots to the SCUBA page, so check it out too.

I can't tell you how overwhelming Yosemite is. I was completely unprepared for it. When we rounded the corner, just before the tunnel and caught that first glimpse of Tunnel View, I cried. I've been here many times, but not since my ordeal started. During the ordeal, we've taken some trips and done some interesting things, but I never enjoyed it. Everything was colored by a filter of pain and meds. It was like I've been seeing in black and white, and now I'm seeing in color for the first time.

I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. We had a wonderful time. On Tuesday afternoon, I was skiing black diamond runs at Badger Pass!!! (Remember that this is just 4 months post-op!!!)

If you've never been to Yosemite, you must make plans to go. The pictures don't even come close to capturing the grandeur of this amazing place.

Pain-free vibes are headed out your way! Love to all,

Mark

*** L4-5 and L5-S1 Disc Replacement (SB Charite III) 9/20/02 by Dr. Zeegers, AlphaKlinik, Munich, Germany ***

2/25/00 Microdiscectomy/laminotomy L4-5, 10x15x7 mm left paracentral protrusion

9/23/00 CANCELED L4-S1 360 fusion CANCELED

9/15/01 emergency microdiscectomy L5-S1, 14x13x10 mm left paracentral protrusion

Both discectomies resolved hip/leg/foot symptoms, but left the underlying back pain. Residual left foot pain and numbness. Lost axial reflex (left ankle).

Researching artificial disc options. ProDisc vs. SB Charite III looks like a toss-up, but you can see which one won.

*** The AlphaKlinik was wonderful. My expectations were high, but the clinic, it's staff, and Dr. Zeegers far exceeded them!!!

Mark, the picture is so incredible! The way the sky is refelected in the water, yet with the water's own depictions of the sky had me mesmerized. It is a beautiful picture. I am so happy that you and your wife got to be a part of that. You bot look so happy and peaceful. I look forward to the deveolopment of your web site. Take care.

Scott, PDN (prosthetic disc nucleus) is a less invasive procedure that is designed to restore disc height. If the annulus is intact, PDN will be a better choice than TDR (total disc replacement, we tend to call it ADR here - A for artificial). If you've had disc ruptures, bulges or tears, you'll probably need ADR. The great news is that both the Charite and ProDisc are excellent solutions and are both available in the US. Contact me via that web page and I'll point you in the right direction.

Where do you live? I'm looking forward to climbing again soon. My wife and I were married in the Hidden Valley campground at JT. My son and I will hit the rock gym tomorrow or Monday. Maybe we can climb together some time.

Skiing - wow!!
The site is great - all the information and links to your MGH posts will be a valuable guide for anyone else facing similar problems and decisions..
How are your cervical problems standing up to all this abuse?
Have you any more news on fellow ADR recipients - Skullman etc?
Keep on keeping on...
