What is Macrobiotics?
Macrobiotics is more of a "verb" than
a "noun". It is a WAY of doing things rather than a thing itself. It can be a way of eating, a way of cooking, a way of exercising,
thinking, approaching taking care of oneself, one's health, of relating with people...The word 'macrobiotics' itself derives
from the Greek, meaning: Great or Large Life. A macrobiotic way of doing things is generally based on an intuitive, spontaneous
sense of balance between opposite energies - what has been called by traditional Asian cultures the terms: Yin and Yang, or
the charged, active "masculine" energy exisiting in all things and the expansive, relaxed, more quiet "feminine" energy in
all things. That sounds vague! How about an example?
Macrobiotic
approaches to diet and daily life, for example, are typically based on a grain and vegetable way of eating, emphasizing locally
grown, seasonal foods, natural activities, and non-invasive, non-harming lifestyles lived closely with Nature's rhythms. Sicknesses
and other challenges are welcomed and appreciated as evidence of a need to rebalance our connection with our environment,
our close personal relations, our personal direction. Difficulties are treated with openess, curiosity, and a gentle, natural
approach - including plant based medicines and modest, restrained adjustments to our daily diet, activities and attitudes.
There are few "limits, rules, or don'ts" to the Pacific Macrobioitic Way of Health.
Macrobiotics can be a way of living, eating, thinking, & acting that opens, energizes, & harmonizes all aspects of
an individual human life that extends joy and peace to all beings.
Pacific
Macrobiotics is an educational resource dedicated to teaching people how to nourish and strengthen their health. Our
mission is to help create a healthy, happy, peaceful community of people who eat and live in harmony with Nature. Through
personal guidance and public classes we teach simple ways to improve not only biological health, but emotional, mental, spiritual,
and social well being. Our emphasis is how to make more orderly and natural the practical aspects of daily life: food choices,
cooking, bodycare, home environment and daily activity. By living consciously in accordance with the order of Nature we can
realize greater vitality, freedom, connection, peace and ultimately happiness.
