Dear Friends of the Old Jail,

On appeal our attorney, the Brandt-Hawley Law Group, won our suit to require an EIR from the County before they could demolish the old jail. In the process, CEQA (the California Environmental Quiality Act) was strenghthened. The County has withdrawn their demlition permit and are now in negotiation with us for the future of this graceful old piece of downtown Salinas.
We will post updates as they are available.
Donations for our ongoing expenses are requested. Please help.

I know we can do it. Sí, se puede.

We are registered with the IRS as a 501 (c)3, public charity. Donations are tax deductible to the extent provided by law. Please send donations by check made payable to the Architectural Heritage Association and mail to:

About the Architectural Heritage Association

Local residents opposed to Monterey County's plan to demolish the historic Old Jail in downtown Salinas formed this nonprofit corporation called the Architectural Heritage Association (AHA!)
Speaker for the group is Mark E. Norris.
AHA! is a goal oriented and coalition building organization focusing on the following:
1) Adding buildings and sites in Monterey County to the local, State and National Registers of Historic Resources;
2) Their preservation, rehabilitation, and/or adaptive reuse for cultural, historical, architectural and aesthetic reasons;
3) Use of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), and litigation when needed.

AHA believes the County failed to consider alternatives to demolition as is required by CEQA, and that governments should be held to the same rules they hold the public to.

Persons interested in further information may call speaker, Mark E. Norris at (831) 424-2114 or
contact by e-mail.
