About Us

Create-away Cottage is a thoughtfully designed retreat located approximately 65 miles north of Dallas/Fort Worth in the peaceful countryside of Grayson County, Texas. The retreat is a great place to get away and enjoy time exploring your creative energies or to simply have dedicated time to work on your projects.  

Why open a "creative" retreat?

I got the idea for Create-away Cottage after going on several weekend quilt retreats with friends.  These weekend escapes gave us dedicated time to make progress on our individual projects.   Moreover, it was a chance to share in our favorite pastime and to gain from each other’s ideas, enthusiasm, and experiences. We returned home with both renewed energies and stronger friendships. 

After that, I was hooked on retreats and I started thinking about opening one of my own.  I wanted to provide a place specifically designed for creative endeavors, such as quilting and scrapbooking; a place where my guests could find a respite from everyday demands and share their creative energies.

With encouragement from my husband, family, co-workers, and friends, I began making plans for Create-away Cottage.   My goal is to give others a fun, relaxing, and comfortable atmosphere where there’s an emphasis on nurturing friendships and building personal creativity.
