The Dream

In August of 2002 I initiated a search in the surrounding areas of Puerto Vallarta. My dream was to find a locale without the tourist trap mentality, on the Ocean front, with a beach that is good for bathing, remote enough yet somewhat accessible, and to top it all off I wanted to have electricity available. I thought from the outset that it would be impossible to find and that a compromise would be necessary.

The Search

I traveled Nayarit concentrating on the areas that a month later would be hit hard by hurricane Kenna.  Although properties were available I was concerned to be down so close to the sea and I didn't like the quantities of mosquitoes and other bothersome insects. I traveled down to Puerto Vallarta and then down to what  is known as Cabo Corrientes, an area that had intrigued me before. I started my entrance to this area down at the "Hotelito Desconocido".  I didn’t like the area very much but was hopeful.  I continued north to "Peñitas" and found this to be the type of place of which I had been dreaming.

Tehuamixtle

From there I went up to Tehuamixtle and even before seeing the bay I had fallen in love. The view of the bay is breathtaking, the people are still a fishing village even though some tourism does arrive by sea and land. The beach is excellent and the bay quite calm. The food at Restaurant Cande’s is excellent as is their service. Before I left I initiated the purchase of property dead center on the hillside overlooking the bay.  The electric service to the town had been there for a year and the lines go right through the property.

Casa Tehua

My wife and I have the long-term goal of building a Bed and Breakfast and moving there to own and operate "Casa Tehua".
