Liner Notes by Joe Allison
It has been my fortune to have known some great singers. I have met some great song writers. I have seen some magnificent actors. I have been thrilled by some tremendous performers. But in my short, but happy life in the bedazzling world known as show business, there have been decidedly elongated gaps between the times I have encountered an entertainer who possesses all of these talents. Thereby hangs this tale... From the moment your phonograph stylus translates the electrical impulses contained in the grooves of this album you will be aware that the multi-talented species is not extinct... the show business incubator has hatched another of these rare birds: The songs he has written are bound to leave an indelible mark on the music world. As a showman, he literally stops the show wherever he plays on personal appearances. He is a 'find' in the motion picture industry. He is already in demand for network television shows. As a singer, his 'feel' for the lyrics and his ability to interpret a song is incredible. As a recording star, he can seem to do no wrong. All of these things he does with ease, unhurried confidence and a marvelous kind of day-to-day gratitude that his work makes his life one long vacation with pay. If I seem to be a bit free with my praise - believe me, I am not. Just ask anyone who knows Bobby Bare. Bobby's first recording for RCA Victor, 'Shame on Me', was an instant hit. Chet Atkins, the company's Nashville recording chief, had added another durable star to his roster. In this album, more than your money's worth: fresh arrangements, imaginative songs, Nashville ("Hitsville!") musicians, and the backing of Anita Kerr's magnificent vocal group. But most of all - BOBBY BARE!
