What is a Baptism? When most Christians hear the word "baptism" the first thing that probably enters their mind is a water ceremony.  However, this is not the only signification of the word as used in the Bible, and in fact, Greek usage.  Dale's exhaustive grammatical studies in his series on the usage of the word "baptism" yields the following definition of the word baptism:  "Whatever is capable of thoroughly changing the character, state, or condition of any object, is capable of baptizing that object; and by such change of character, state, or condition does, in fact, baptize it."   Follow this link for a discussion of the many baptisms in Scripture.
