The Unity of the Body of Christ
What does the Bible say is the unity of the Body of Christ?
Protestant denominations claim they base their doctrine on the Scripture. Yet, when they write their documents establishing their existence and delineate the doctrinal requirements to be confessed by those who join their denomination, why do they ignore what the Scriptures say?
What does the Word say is the sole, complete content of the doctrinal unity of Christians who are members of the One Body of Christ? The answer can be found in Ephesians 4:1-6, yet it is remarkable that most creeds of Protestant denominations ignore this central passage, and as a result invent their own list of required "distinctives." The result of ignoring the Scriptural basis of unity is the existence of the many Body-dividing sects and heresies of Protestantism -- sects that cannot reconcile their doctrinal statements with the truth of Eph. 4:4-6. You can read our doctrinal statement here.
In the links below are discussions on what is a heretic/schismatic, the true Biblical basis for separation, and how creeds such as the Westminster Confession of Faith and the London Baptist Confession not only oppose each other but stand in opposition to, and thus destroy, true Christian unity -- the unity of the Spirit declared in Eph. 4:4-6.
