A Note From a Fellow Dreamer on A Quest Through Life

Imagine a "Rainbow Tree" standing tall under a skylight in a beautiful reflecting pool casting a myriad of rainbows everywhere from the crystals that dangle from its branches . . . or maybe a "Rainbow Window" reflecting magical rainbows dancing across a hospital wing on their way to bring wishes of hope and smiles of delight to the faces of those children, some of whom may have been there for months. If they cannot go out, perhaps a small piece of the outside can come in bring the light, love and hope with it.

It started with a dream of

A Tree – life itself a constant --symbolic of the beauty of the soul that lives on in light and love.

The  Glass Crystals—representing the frailities of life

The Rainbows -- ever-changing light patterns whisper the spirit of those passed on reminding us that they are with us always in the Promise of the Rainbow.

A unique visual memorial for these children and a message from them to us, about the frailty of life, the beauty in life and their gentle prayer for us to appreciate the choices we have.

With Hope

     and A Dream

            and A Wish

This is the "vision" that was planted in my dreams when our son left this world due to complications from a congenital heart defect. This is the gift our son left for us to share with all. I have seen the culmination of part of that dream in the "Rainbow Window" that has been presiding on the 5th floor of Duke Hospital, in a window facing Duke Chapel since January 1994. Another part of that dream is represented in the "Star" in the atrium of the Pediatric Intensive care unit of Wake Medical Center in Raleigh, NC

I have had this vision since 1991 when our son A.J. left us. Because I knew our son was not long for this world and had semi adjusted to that fact –I cannot imagine the loss felt by those suffering the events of 9/11 -- which is why now, more than ever, it is important for me to continue this quest so people do not get complacent about life - that we acknowledge the life cycle - in all it’s ugliness and beauty - in public access areas such as malls, libraries, the foyers of hospitals, government buildings to bring the physical world and spiritual world together with a beautiful "Rainbow Tree" as a tribute to our loved ones, for all the dreams cut short..

Please see Correspondence to read an e-mail letter from a mother who wrote to tell  me what seeing the "Rainbow Window"  meant to her. After reading that, I know you will see the importance and beauty of this project.  I look forward discussing any ideas you may have to further this vision.
