Aikido
training is a challenging but rewarding endeavor which will
create positive change in your life! However, it requires
hard work and commitment, both to training and to the
customs and etiquette of the art. All students willing to
commit to training are welcome to join Raleigh Aikikai.
Therefore, it is important for a new student to
get a sense of what will be expected prior to enrolling.
To be considered for membership and to determine
whether training in a traditional martial arts school
such as Raleigh Aikikai is right for you, new students must
observe a basic class and request an interview with the
chief instructor as delineated below:
- Observe a class: A new student must observe at least one entire Monday or Wednesday Aikido class (Adults: 6:30-7:30pm, Children: 4:15-5:00pm). These classes offer basic training and are taught by the Chief Instructor. Please arrive 10 minutes prior to the start of class.
- Request an Interview: After observing an entire class, request an interview with the chief instructor to discuss the possibility of membership in the dojo. The chief instructor will be available to interview you for the 30 minutes immediately following the class. Please allow for up to 90 minutes for your visit. The instructor will want to know about your background in martial arts or intensive physical training (if any), your expected level of commitment and your reasons for wanting to join the dojo.
Thank you for your interest in Raleigh Aikikai. Many of our students have trained for more than a decade and enjoy the opportunity to share the art of Aikido with new students who are eager to learn.
Note: provisional membership program is ongoing and acceptance can occur at any time of the month.
