Welcome to the CHicago Area Origami Society home page.
The Chicago Area Origami Society is a group of origami enthusiasts who are dedicated to the sharing and promoting the art of paper-folding.
Origami is a fascinating, fun-filled and creative activity for children as well as adults. With a minimum of folds and creases you can transform a flat sheet of paper into a three-dimensional form like a swan, a boat, a pinwheel or even a hat.
This activity encourages children as well as adults to experiment, and it is a wonderful practice for developing manual dexterity as well as patience and exactness. One of the oldest and most revered Asian art forms, origami is practiced all over the world; its origins, however are obscure.
Folding is only a small part of this fascinating art form. Paper-folding allows you to create innovative designs and figures. Through folding you also learn basic mathematical principles and gain a practical understanding of geometric forms.
It's easy to list the benefits of origami. Through origami we gain patience, develop hand-eye coordination, and learn about spatial relationships and mathematics. Origami also provides us with a feeling of accomplishment, an opportunity to share and help others in a noncompetitive environment. Origami offers something for everyone.
