Clinical Services for the General Public

Are you seeking mental health treatment or psychotherapy?

Perhaps you are having relationship problems, or you feel unable to handle all the stress in your life.  Sometimes it takes an outside perspective to help you make positive changes in your life, and to treat more serious psychological problems you might be experiencing.

Our practice provides clinical services for a wide range of people…click on the link below for more information:

Individual therapy

Our Center provides individual psychotherapy services for children, adolescents and adults. Individual therapy typically begins with scheduling a one- to two-hour consultation with one of the Center’s associates.  The purpose of this initial session is to determine what psychological problems or issues should be the focus of therapy, to decide how best to understand and work with your concerns, and to determine if one of our therapists can meet your needs.

Our Center offers individual therapy that is tailored to your specific needs and our sliding scale fee can be adjusted to your budget.  Once therapy goals and objectives have been identified, individual sessions will typically occur on a weekly basis.

The duration of each session is 50 minutes, although more frequent and/or longer sessions can be accommodated.  Your therapist will also provide you with progress updates at regular treatment intervals.

Couples and Marriage Therapy

The Center for Forensic & Clinical Psychology offers counseling and therapy services for couples experiencing relationship difficulties.  Therapy commences with an initial consultation session intended to establish mutually agreed upon goals for the couple.

The objectives of couples and marital therapy typically involve identifying specific problems, learning how to practice healthy communication with your partner, and acquiring skills for resolving conflict effectively.  In addition, couples that struggle with intimacy issues, infidelity, sexual difficulties, or engage in frequent conflict can benefit from receiving therapy at our Center.

With the assistance of your therapist, you and your partner will develop a more intimate, satisfying, and healthy relationship, and be able to overcome potential conflicts outside the context of therapy.  Couples’ sessions typically occur on a weekly basis and last 50 minutes.  A sliding scale fee structure can accommodate your financial needs.

Family Therapy

The Center for Forensic & Clinical Psychology offers therapy for families that have experienced disruption, conflict, and turmoil that cannot be resolved within the family.  Given that family relationships are a critical factor in everyone’s psychological health, our Center places much emphasis on resolving conflicts among you and your family members, while also helping your family cope with issues of divorce, domestic violence, child abuse, substance abuse, discipline and punishment, as well as death, loss and bereavement.  We can also explore cultural and religious issues that are common sources of concern in a diverse or blended family.

Therapy is conducted in weekly 50- or 90-minute sessions and goals typically include identifying specific problems, establishing healthy communication patterns, applying effective conflict resolution strategies, and teaching coping skills tailored to the age and needs of each member of your family.  Our Center has room to accommodate several family members in a single session.

Supervised Parenting Time Services

The Center for Forensic & Clinical Psychology performs various types of parenting evaluations and consultation services and makes recommendations to judicial officials.  Nearly all of these evaluations involve monitoring parent-child interactions.  Consequently, we have on many occasions provided supervised parenting for parents who have been court-ordered to have supervised parenting time with their child.

Due to the occasional unavailability of agencies in Colorado that offer such services, parents can have difficulty finding experienced professionals to supervise visits with their children.  If you are a parent faced with this problem, our associates can provide supervised parenting services and present feedback to the court and/or other designated agencies regarding observations of interactions between you and your children.

Our Center also provides parent-child reunification and reintegration services for parents who are seeking such therapeutic services.

Therapeutic Assessment Services

Therapeutic assessment is a recent trend in modern psychotherapy that entails the utilization of psychological tests within a collaborative patient-therapist relationship.  The purpose of this approach is to help you make further progress in your individual therapy, or assist you with arriving at answers regarding your psychological functioning.

Therapeutic assessment utilizes both psychological evaluation and therapy.  The assessment component includes the use of standardized instruments that provide objective data, while the therapy component entails presenting such data in a way that makes interpretation broader and deeper than possible by one’s self-report.

Our Center has associates trained to utilize this approach.  Through this process they will allow you to formulate your own questions, which will be then answered in a collaborative fashion by looking at your strengths and weaknesses yielded by well-recognized psychological instruments.

This combination can be a powerful intervention that respects your wishes and places decisions in your hands, making you an active participant in the process of therapy.
