Adult Children with Aging Parents

As an attorney who practices in the criminal law domain, you are often faced with the complexities of your client’s mental health and its impact on his or her criminal case.

Perhaps you think your client may struggle with mental illness, and you question whether it will interfere with the impending legal proceedings. Many defense attorneys struggle with defendants who present with psychological problems, cognitive deficits, and/or psychiatric symptoms. As you know, mental illness and intellectual deficits can interfere with a defendant’s ability to adequately participate in his/her defense or in the legal process. Other times defendants are mentally unstable during the commission of their crimes and should not be held fully responsible for the offenses.

You may need a mental health expert to thoroughly evaluate your client’s mental health now or at the time of the offense. This evaluation can confirm or disprove your suspicions regarding the mental health and/or cognitive capacities of your client. We have extensive experience evaluating defendants, drawing conclusions about their current mental state or at the time of the offense, making recommendations regarding their mental health functioning, and testifying in court. We have also assisted many attorneys by testifying about specific exculpatory, mitigating, and/or aggravating factors.
