The Shepaug Dam Bald Eagle Observation Area is now CLOSED. Please join us again beginning Saturday, December 17th for the 2017 bald eagle observation season.

The Shepaug Dam Bald Eagle Observation Area in Southbury, Connecticut is open from the third weekend of December through mid-March on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. for bald eagle observation.

148,000 people have visited the observation area since it was opened to the public in 1986.  The observation area was opened to the public during the 2016 winter eagle observation season a total of 36 days.  We had 1 weather related closing day and 2 delayed openings.  3,926 visitors came to the Shepaug Dam during the 2016 bald eagle observation season 60% of whom were visiting for their first time.  We averaged 5 eagles on each day of our 2016 observation season.  Our high eagle count for one day for 2016 was 24 eagles and our low count for one day was 0 eagles.
