The Shepaug Dam Bald Eagle Observation Area in Southbury, Connecticut is open from
the last weekend of December through mid-March on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Reservations are required and may be
made by calling (800) 368-8954 from December 7th through
March 7th, Tuesday through Friday, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. or by clicking here.

133,500 people have visited the observation area since it was opened to the public
in 1986. The observation area was opened to the public during the 2011 winter eagle observation season a total
of 29 days. We had a record setting 6 weather related closing days. 3,500 visitors came to the
Shepaug Dam during the 2011 bald eagle observation season (many for the first time). We averaged 7 eagles on each
day of our 2011 observation season. Our high eagle count for one day for 2011 was 21 eagles and our low count for one
day was 1 eagle. Our volunteers contributed 290 volunteer days at the observation area.
