East Village, N.Y. OTHER SKILLS I'm also certified in Pilates and I've been teaching Basic and Advanced Mat since 2003. In
2006 I further developed my Pilates expertise by studying the Xercizer
(Reformer) at IM=X Pilates here in New York City. This year my study
has deepened to include participation in the Master Classes given
at At home I practice on the "Performer" version of the Reformer. Still a great tool for practicing the basics of Reformer form and sequences. I'm currently selling it for $200 or best offer---let me know if you want to come pick it up. I will throw in 2 private at home lessons for free. Why Pilates? Core strength is the basis for all body strength. Our most primal animal instinct to survive-the "fight or flight" response is there too--the Greeks called it the "solar plexus". In martial arts, the "chi" or "qui" center is the 3rd chakra--it's about 1 inch below your navel. It's also a great point to focus on in meditation. Pilates is the best exercise for improving core strength; muscle toning, stretching, improving postural alignment, correcting musculo-skeletal compensation, reducing "guarding" (or body-part "paranoia") and inducing body part "dissociation" or "disassociation" (I am NOT a physical therapist or a doctor.) or the separating of body parts in movement so that THE WHOLE BODY can function more efficiently. Please book by phone. DO NOT EMAIL. Serious clients call to book; non-serious clients email until the cows come home. Unless you are a regular (Thank You & Bless you regulars!) you must confirm your appointment--on your way--by calling my mobile at 917.771.6367 and leaving a message that you are coming. Please remember to call when you are on your way to confirm you are coming; otherwise I cannot guarantee I will be available for your massage. If you cancel an appointment without 24 hour notice, then you are responsible for half the fee. Please book mindfully, not mindlessly. Washington Square Institute offers counseling--if you need psychological therapy or counseling, contact them for help. Please treat others as YOU would like to be treated. With Love and Gratitude, St.Orr

About MeI'm
a masseur. "Masseur" is the French word for male massage therapist.
Masseuse is the French word for female massage therapist or bodyworker.
I'm a graduate of The Swedish Institute, one of the foremost schools for
Swedish and Sports massage training in the U.S. I love my work--touching people. I love helping people and inspiring them--whether it be through the healing arts of massage therapy, energy work, teaching exercise or entertaining. I see massage as a way of loving other people with my hands. Life is short. There is way too much suffering and worry in the world. It's my job as a masseur to give relief from the suffering. I am always spellbound by how the power of touch with good intentions makes me feel. I'm honored and proud to be able to do, experience and share this gift with others. Often, I meditate 1/2 to 1 hour a day to keep a handle on my "New York neurosis." Some times I'm successful-other times, I fail (sorry--I'm only human). I use Meditation as a form of organic medication and as "imaginative soul travel" to help me recover my power, keep myself free of evil munchkins, angry trolls and "pernicious" influences that inhabit many corners of the city and the world. I massage you in my sacred space and I use my temple to touch yours. Awareness is the beginning of change. Recognizing your own life script and how you cling is the beginning of changing how your are. Those sticky thoughts that you find yourself thinking about that you really wish you weren't! Self-observation and reflection is the beginning of the all empowering knowledge that YOU can be anything you want. YOU are your best therapist You and the wealth of 10,000 years of history--accessible to you right here and now IF you have the patience to tune into your own "nature of mind." Life and death are governed by the tongue and our actions broadcast how we are feeling and who we are (which changes from moment to moment, day to day--thank God! : ). I recall one of my favorite phrases "I water the seeds of happiness--I throw out the weeds of unhappiness (and bitterness)." Star meditation is particularly peaceful... Before massage I was an actor, formed and led several bands and worked as a professional (singing) cocktail pianist. For a short period in the 90's I was an independent "underground" film/video producer. Some of my works have appeared in festivals around the world, besides MIX '94; Frameline and Oslo AIDS Film Festival. I have always been a musician--it's my first love. I still write songs and love Progressive House. I'm a "song man"--not a particular lover of any one artist or DJ. To me "The song is the thing." I began my professional performing career as a dancer. As a young faggot in New York in the 70's and 80's--it was all about the dance and the nightlife. Sadly now with the anti-cabaret laws you can get bounced out of a club for moving your hips in time to the music (this to me is one of the ultimate lows to living in NYC--oh well radically accept and move on!). Dance in your living room; dance at the gym but please please--don't forget the beauty and the power of dancing. Movement is life! |

Besides Massage and personal instruction in Pilates I also provide meditation and healing arts consultations. Also feel free to call me to say Hi--but not after 12 midnight and NOT on my mobile. I love talking to people and am quite a loner-really. Self-healing is a life-long process. To me introspection, and creative acting-out (especially making music) is the ideal prophylaxis against violent acting out, depression and addiction and the best form of therapy is self-therapy through the artistic/creative process; unless of course you are in crisis mode, unable to function in A.D.L. (activities of daily life); have a medical condition or an organic basis for a psychological condition. If you want to read the dirt on one helluva messed up shrink--read Donald Spoto's "Marilyn Monroe-the biography." It wasn't suicide-dear. Just consult Mrs. Murray's ghost. "Now who does the laundry at 4:35 a.m. Eunice?" Lately I have returned to studying THE DAO DE JING by Laozi. Also Wayne Dyer's CD's "Change Your Thoughts, et al." is helpful. A spiritual practice is also very very helpful in combating the primary cause of disease which to me is stress. Stress can also come from noise (God knows here here in N.Y.C., i.e., screaming teens and buses with their whip-like CRACK sounds!) and our own disapproval with the way other people are behaving, acting or doing. You are always in control of how someone is affecting you (of course we are not talking "Fight or Flight" response here...); and let's not get stupid--it's one thing to tune someone out--it's another if they are screaming in your ear or invading your physical space! You
must remember that even in the darkest moments there is a light that is
you. ![]() |
