Adventures of s/v Adagio

MM

Summer 2007

After moving aboard Adagio in May 2007, we sailed her from Norfolk, VA to our mooring at Dutch Harbor Boat Yard in Jamestown, RI.

The sunsets in our "back yard" at Dutch Harbor were beautiful.

We spent most of the summer here (but see below), waiting for our boat commissioning to be completed and-- to our dismay -- repairing and replacing a significant portion of our *brand new* equipment.

This is where Mike perfected his fishing skills. Frequently a frenzy of bluefish would come into the harbor and circle around in the area, at which point Mike would grab his pole. The bluefish would circle around their prey, the circle getting smaller and smaller until they started chopping away. There would be tiny fish pieces all over -- and striped bass would then surface to eat the "road kill".

And here is the final result:

Sometimes Mike got a little carried away, like the day that we took daughter Ann for a sail. The wind died on us, so we were sailing very slowly. At one point Mike spotted something floating in the water and we circled around until he could see what it was: a lure. Mike grabbed the boathook, and the rest is history:

We sailed to Maine for three weeks in August, spending most of our time between Penobscot Bay and Frenchman's Bay (east of Mt. Desert). Unfortunately, since we've been to Maine every summer since we met, we took very few photos.

Here is Mike at the helm as we sailed up Somes Sound, a natural fjord on Mt. Desert.

The windjammer Nathaniel Bowditch arrived in Somesville Harbor, at the head of Somes Sound, shortly after we did. Merrie sailed on this windjammer many times in the 70's and 80's.

We spent a few days sailing with friends from CDSOA, the Cape Dory Sailboat Owners' Association (Mike has owned two Cape Dorys). Here are Cathy Monaghan and Bruce Halley sailing their CD 32, Realization.

On second thought, you can't exactly see Cathy and Bruce, but they are there. And Bruce took this photo of us:

The sunsets in Maine were also beautiful.

At summer's end we spent a few weeks back in Dutch Harbor, and then we sailed to Norfolk, VA at the beginning of October -- to have yet more repairs done!

It is now the beginning of November and we are in Little Creek in Norfolk, VA, waiting for a good weather window to set sail for the eastern Caribbean.
