thieves like us
biography

Thieves Like Us are Jen Reynoso and Scott Yuen. They were initially called 'Love Vigilantes' but recently lost the name to the 'Vigilantes of Love'. The duo joined up, while living together, to make a cover of a Jewel song for an outgoing answering machine message. The message was a success, though leading to numerous unsolicited calls 'just to hear the song'. Following that project the band went on indefinite hiatus to pursue other things.

All was quiet until the summer of 1999.

Suddenly, three major events took place over the span of a few months:

(1) Neither of the two were currently working in a band.
(2) Yuen bought a new 4-track.
(3) UCSD called and booked Yuen's now defunct band 'raj factor'.

With fate intervening like this, the two had no choice but to reconvene.....resulting in the first release in over 3 years: 'stop at 25'.

Stop at 25 was released in July of 2000 through mp3.com. The band are occasionally performing live to support it. But only here and there. They intend to record some additional material, and then pursue a more active live presence.

There is no miraculous story to this band. They aren't out to save the world. They write pop songs about all the things in your life that go wrong. That's the skinny.
