Wetland Sampling / GIS Stuff

I'll add photos later showing how I sample soil & sediment in the wetlands, but for now I have these two photos showing the tools I use to locate sampling points. 'Consumer-grade' GPS receivers have gotten MUCH better and cheaper recently. I use a really inexpensive Garmin receiver and I'm very pleased with its performance. When I want even better precision, I hook it up to my Powerbook and use GPSy software. This allows the Powerbook to constantly receive the satellite signal and if you sit still it will 'average' the signal for a few minutes to give you excellent accuracy. Just plug in a cheap GPS to a Powerbook and you have a serious tool for not-so-serious money.
The first rain after the wetland was finished. That white flag there is one of my sample points.
