TECO CHOOSING PROFITS OVER NEIGHBORHOODS -- AGAIN!
230kV Transmission Lines Edit
Edit

Tampa Electric, once again, ignores pleas of area residents.  Tampa Electric is planning on running a 30+ mile transmission line from Polk County through Seffner and on to Temple Terrace.  TECO has chosen a proposed route that will run through subdivisions, destroy sensitive areas, and displace residents.

A neighborhood meeting is being held Feb. 11 (see calendar for details) for area residents to meet and discuss what options may be available to reroute these lines so that they follow along major roadways vs. through homes and neighborhoods.

SCA was able to obtain assistance from our County Attorney's office in getting DEP to arrange a Public Hearing for March 5, 2008 (See Calendar for details).  You are urged to attend this hearing, bring friends, family, and neighbors.   This extra hearing is not routine and we should take full advantage of it.  County Staff will also be in attendance. IT IS CRITICAL TO HAVE A GOOD SHOWING.

If you want more information you can go the DEP's site to review documents.  In addition, SCA has a list of links you can view and/or print out to learn more about the project.

A state Senate bill would ease the path of lines trhough state lands and boost a nuclear plant.

Adding insult to injury, utility companies are have proposed state Senate legislation this past week.   Don't be misled by by the subtitle.  This proposed legislation goes much further than public lands.  Click on the title above to link to the article.

Ready your keyboards and pens to oppose this legislation.  We'll keep you posted.
