| State Vets Plan to Eliminate Brucellosis in YNP |
This shows the true colors of the livestock industry and how they want to control how our wildlife is managed for their benefit. Buffalo in the Yellowstone are among the few genetically pure buffalo left in North America and they are the only buffalo which have a continuous connection to the land that they inhabit. This plan has been tried in the past and it was an utter failure. This continuous genetic bottleneck will result in a decline of genetic diversity and will negatively effect the health the heard thus putting them at risk of extinction. |

| 2,400 Yellowstone bison dead |
Yellowstone officials say more than half of the Park's 4,700 bison have died this winter. The new estimate comes after recent aerial surveys that wildlife managers used to revise estimates of winter-killed bison from roughly 400 animals to roughly 700 animals. The winter-kill estimate is in addition to roughly 1,700 animals killed by humans this winter, most of which wildlife managers captured and sent to slaughter for attempting to leave the Park near the North and West entrances. |

| Buffalo Field Campaign "drops the ball" again |
We know how many buffalo have died at the hands of the agents and hunters. The question we must press to the agencies is how many wild American buffalo are left? According to a recent report put out by the Park Service, only 1,436 buffalo remain. We are pressing the Park Service for details, because the numbers just don't add up if their fall population estimate was 4,700 buffalo. The Buffalo Field Campaign (BFC) is the only group working in the field, everyday, to stop the slaughter and harassment of Yellowstone's wild buffalo. Volunteers from around the world defend buffalo on their traditional winter habitat and advocate for their protection. Our daily patrols stand with the buffalo on the ground they choose to be on, and document every move made against them. (So, what happened?) |

| Numbers don't Lie, Yellowstone's Lewis did that |
Yellowstone bison deal opens new access to land By MATTHEW BROWN - Associated Press - 04/18/08 "Lewis said the park's bison population is down by more than half from the beginning of winter to about 2,300 animals. However, she said the population remained robust and is expected to rebound in coming years." At the start of this Yellowstone National Park/Montana Cattle Industry driven "Killing Season", we were told the Park's Buffalo herd would not drop below 3,000. We were told the pre-kill estimate of the Park's herd was 4,700. As we watch the count, there have been 1,601 Buffalo killed so far this season. 4,700 minus 1,600 killed leaves 3,100 Buffalo (with another 100 remaining to be sent to slaughter). According the the Park Superintendent's numbers, more than 2,400 Buffalo have been killed. (4,700 pre-killing season count, minus 2,300 still living in the park, equals 2,400 killed) These numbers don't add up. Contact these incompetent "Stooges of the Cattle Industry" and urge them to stop slaughtering the wild bison under their care. They have the power to stop the slaughter. Let them know you demand it. | "Historic" Deal with CUT is bad for Bison |
"The only historic announcement that Schweitzer and Lewis could possibly make is that they've killed more wild American buffalo than anyone since the 1800s," said Buffalo Field Campaign co-founder Mike Mease. According to information made public in recent months, CUT will be given more than $2.5 million in private and taxpayer money, in exchange for removing their cattle for 30 years and allowing twenty-five bison to temporary access to some Gallatin National Forest and CUT lands. These 25 bison will first have to be trapped, tested for brucellosis exposure, tagged, and the females fitted with vaginal telemetry devices. "1600 dead American buffalo later, they give us this lip service," said Stephany Seay of activist group Buffalo Field Campaign. "This will do nothing to stop the slaughter and just means 25 wild bison will be run through the typical gauntlet." |

| The True Cost of Brucellosis |
In short, the livestock industry has been lying when it claims brucellosis is a serious economic threat. Indeed, losing brucellosis-free status had about as much impact on the economic health of Wyoming's livestock industry as a bout with the common cold. The same would be true in Montana. It is time to bury the brucellosis myth, it is time to protect all bison and cattle and elk in this region from another tragedy. "We already know quarantined bison can be cleansed of brucellosis. It's been done at Wind Cave National Park in South Dakota." "What about applying what we already know? Brucellosis is a seasonally contagious, manageable disease with the primary window for transmission being March 15 to June 15. State Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks Chief of Research Keith Aune proved this years ago in his (still unpublished) research findings regarding the persistence of brucellosis in the greater Yellowstone area. Protect or manage a few susceptible cows around this window and we have a low-cost win/win arrangement for stockmen, wildlife enthusiasts, bison, elk, and the public in general." By the way, isn't this the 21st Century? Who's drinking unpasteurized milk or eating unpasteurized cheese and raw meat? Hunters and slaughterhouse workers must have some idea of the threat by now? |

| Yellowstone "lackeys" of MT Cattlemen |
Washington, DC - Although it is the official symbol for the U.S. Department of Interior, the American bison is treated worse than any other species of wildlife in the national park system, according to Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility (PEER). This year, more than one in five members of the nation's largest remaining "free-roaming" herd, located within Yellowstone National Park, will be killed - by slaughter, hazing and maiming - as a result of federal action. "Chipmunks in New York's Central Park get more consideration and protection than the bison in Yellowstone," stated PEER Executive Director Jeff Ruch, calling Interior's bison management policy "a universally acknowledged travesty. The fact that Interior uses the bison as its official symbol adds the insult of misleading advertising to the injury of mass mayhem." At the request of Yellowstone Park's own employees who are appalled by what one calls "biological malpractice," PEER has started a drive to remove the bison as the official seal for the Interior Department and is enlisting public involvement in suggesting a substitute symbol for the agency. Yellowstone National Park has sent the animals straight to slaughter, without testing them for the disease brucellosis. Last year, MDoL drove 48 Buffalo over a frozen lake. 12 fell through the ice drowning 2. | Sport Hunting is a "Mental Disorder" |
Here's a comment from Ted Nugent (has-been rock guitarist), the world's most outspoken hunter: "I contribute to the dead of winter and the moans of silence, blood trails are music to my ears. I'm a gut-pile addict. The pig didn't know I was there. It's my kick. I love shafting animals." Animal rights humanitarians are fed up with hunters, their government cronies and their sick mentalities who commit unrepentant violence against animals. Hunters hunt for the thrill of the kill. They receive a heroine-like rush to the senses. Hunting is blood lust and dominance. Hunting is hatred and violence. Hunting is murder. And it's obscene. The killing of animals for sport is bestiality in the worst form. Destruction of animal life, that goes beyond the limit of need, is a violation of the Laws of Nature. Animals only kill according to their need. Man, who has free will to determine the difference between right and wrong, destroys unnecessarily and should be called to account for abusing the freedom which has been accorded him. |

Gallatin National Forest officials intentionally destroyed several hundred pages of records on the 1999 "Land Deal" agreement with the Church Universal and Triumphant. The Buffalo Field Campaign had sought the records under a Freedom of Information Act request. The group wanted to study the effect of the land deal on area bison herds. American taxpayers funded the $13,000,000 land deal in 1999 to acquire and conserve habitat for one of the largest migrations of native ungulates in North America: wild bison, elk, pronghorn antelope, mule deer and bighorn sheep. Habitat is also present for threatened species including grey wolves, grizzly bears, bald eagles and Yellowstone cutthroat trout. |

| Montana Governor Attends Buffalo Hunt? |
A Montana Army National Guard, was one of those chosen for 24 bison licenses after nearly 6,200 people applied. Schweitzer congratulated him by telephone Thursday. "Hey, cowboy!" Schweitzer said from a Capitol office decorated with a bison head on the wall and a bison bronze on a desk. Then Schweitzer asked, "Are we still on" for a hunt? So far, "no comment" from the governor's office.

| Montana Tribes Reject "Canned Buffalo Hunt" |
Five Tribes pulled out of the hunt and turned in their permits. We can only hope that the other Montana tribes realize that, like the hunters, they are being used by the state to do their dirty work, and they will follow suit and pull out of this canned hunt. http://www.buffalofieldcampaign.org/

| The Fallacy of "Sport Hunting" |
Wildlife management in our country is controlled primarily by "consumptive wildlife interests" - to be stocked, harvested, and managed. Non-consumptive wildlife users - those who enjoy viewing, photographing, and observing wildlife in nature - have had very little say in policies and regulations concerning our nation's wildlife and their habitats. Why is that?

| Our Wildlife Under Assault |
Wild Horses, Prairie Dogs and Wolves are threatened in every State where they are found. Hunting Groups and the Livestock industry have infiltrated State and Federal Wildlife Agencies and the BLM to promote the killing, sometimes on Public Owned Lands.
