Thunder Ridge Pups reunite at 4th Annual LM Workshop
August
19, 2006

On Saturday, August 19, 2006 20 LMs (5 puppies - 4 from Thunder Ridge Kennel) and their 25 humans gathered in Three Rivers, Michigan at Justamuc Gundog Training Center for the 4th Annual Midwest Large Munsterlander Workshop.  This years event included a "fun" hunt test for the big dogs (although it would have been more fun if more of the dogs would have performed better), a chance for one-on-one time with professional dog trainer Hal Standish as the puppies had their turn in the field and a chance to pick up a training tip or two.  It was wonderful to see some old friends and meet some new LM owners and see these marvelous dogs strut their stuff in the field and water.  We especially enjoyed this year's event as we were able to reunite with a couple of our pups and their owners from our first "A" litter and see how they were progressing (See pictures below).  Special thanks to Randy Hamilton for organizing the event again this year and to Hal and Nancy Standish for their hospitality.

On Saturday, August 13, 2005 14 LMs (4 puppies) and their 20 humans gathered in Three Rivers, Michigan at Justamuc Gundog Training Center for the 3rd Annual Midwest Large Munsterlander Workshop.  The rain held off while we were in the field but poured during our lunch and dinner break and prevented us from taking our usual group dog and people photo this year.  We met some really great people, renewed some friendships, picked up a training tip or two, and best of all, got to watch these fine dogs do what they do best - hunt!  All of the dogs took a turn in the field with their handler and got some one-on-one time with professional dog trainer Hal Standish.  The weather didn't spoil the day as a great time was had by one and all.  Special thanks to Randy Hamilton for organizing the event again this year and to Hal and Nancy Standish for their hospitality.

The "Big Dogs"

Hal Standish demonstrates a check cord technique to Dick Ruetz, owner of Timberland's Grizzly "Scout".   Scout works the field

Ironmaster's Eddie waits patiently with owner Alan Kaplan for his turn in the field.  Eddie practices the "hold" command.   Eddie doing what Munsterlanders do best - finding birds!

This is Rainey River's Duces Wild "Duce" owned by Pat and Cathy Sexton.  Duce gets a lesson on the Whoa board from trainer Hal Standish as Pat looks on.  Duce gets a little loving from his Dad.

Here's event organizer Randy Hamilton and his hunting duo, Snowy Oaks Quito and Northwind's Blizzard. Snowy Oaks Quito on point.  Quito (left) and Blizzard (right) after the hunt. When's the doggie cocktail hour?

Bill Zeman sends Manitou's Deciso "Max" out into the field.  Max goes in for the retrieve.

This is our Snowy Oaks Alli.  Alli on point.

Dave & Kay Holstrom traveled from Minnesota and brought littermates Timberland's Ginny (Maddi) and Gus (Zeppelin). Dave is shown here with Maddie.   Hal Standish works Timberland's Gus "Zeppelin".

The Puppies

This is 6 month old Willow's Edge Bena retrieving a pigeon. Bena is owned by Bruce Buckingham from Wisconsin.  Bena gets a turn on the Whoa board.

This is 4 month old Snowy Oaks Desi owned by Todd & Lori Rothenberger. Todd & Lori traveled all the way from South Dakota.  Desi on point. Desi is a half sister to our Snowy Oaks Alli.

This is 10 week old Colerain Forge's Annie "Emma" being introduced to her first pigeon. Emma is owned by Matt & Jennifer Frank.  Yummmmmm...it really does taste like chicken!

Is this a sight to behold. What a beautiful puppy point!

Paul McCollum gets Prairie Sky's Abby ready for her turn in the field.    Abby came to the US from Canada.

Okay, it wasn't all work and no play. There was time for some puppy shenanigans as demonstrated by Emma and Abby.

Munsterlander "Games"

Trainer Hal Standish had the big dogs and their handlers line up on each side of a grassy strip.  Hal stood at one end with a dead pheasant.  One at a time a handler and dog would approach the starting line.  Hal would get the dogs attention and throw the bird into the air.  The handler would send the dog to retrieve the bird.  This was an excellent exercise to help work on keeping the dog focused on the task at hand.  Not only was there the distraction of the other handlers but the dogs as well.

Alan Kaplan gets ready to send Eddie for the retrieve.    And she's off. Northwind's Blizzard takes off...

...and brings it back. Good girl Blizz.  Snowy Oak's Alli bringing it back.

Water Work

Handlers and their dogs wait for their turn in the pond.

Timberland's Grizzly "Scout" gets wet.  Willow's Edge Bena completes her retrieve. Good job Bena.

Snowy Oaks Desi showing her water retrieving style.

See you next year!
