Large Munsterlanders

Demonstrated Field Performance
In June, 2004 Alli passed her North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association (NAVHDA) Natural Ability test with a 100/112 Prize III.

Alli and her littermates earned Snowy Oaks Kennel another LMCNA Progeny Performance Award with all of the 5 pups tested passing their NA test.

Alli comes from excellent proven hunting stock.  Both of her parents, Snowy Oaks Kipp & Snowy Oaks Utah, passed the demanding NAVHDA Utility Test with her mom earning a Prize I and a trip to the 2004 NAVHDA Invitational.

Health, Conformation and Temperament
Alli's hips were rated HD free fair-good at 19 months of age from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Canada (WCVM #1883).

Alli is a black & white ticked bitch with a faint white snip.  She is 25 inches tall, 25 1/2 inches long and weighs 60 lbs.  Teeth and eyes are normal with no surgical corrections.  Her coat is medium dense and soft with good feathering on her ears, legs, belly and tail.  She has a beautifully shaped head, athletic build and a fluid, elegant gate.

Alli is best described as a character.  She's highly intelligent, and at home, sometimes tests us with her mischievous antics.  In the field she's all business and easily handled.  She exudes energy and has a playful, happy-go-lucky personality.  She loves everybody, including other dogs, and is always game for a scratch behind the ear, a belly rub or a run around the yard.

Large Munsterlander Club of North America:
As of January 1, 1983 the Large Munsterlander Club of North America® (LMCNA) maintains the official registry for LM pups born in North America. Prior to this time registration was done through the German Verband Grosse Münsterländer and records were cross listed. Neither AKC nor CKC recognition for the LM will be sought and therefore LMs are not run in sanctioned shows.

Thunder Ridge's "B" Dam & Sire

Snowy Oaks Alli

Timberland's George "Tucker"

Tucker is a 3 year old male owned by Dick Sutherland in Wisconsin.  Tucker's parents have earned LMCNA Progeny Performance Awards (at least 4 pups from their litter(s) have passed a NAVHDA Natural Ability test.)

Tucker passed his NAVHDA Natural Ability Test with a 112/112 Prize I.  He has gone on to pass the demanding NAVHDA Utility Test (twice) with a 192 Prize II and a perfect 204/204 Prize I in Sept. 2007.  Tucker is one of three LMs that have qualified for the 2008 NAVHDA Invitational.

As Dick Sutherland states, "Tucker was born to hunt and has a very high prey drive.  His search in dense cover is 50 yards, in open country he will range out to 100-150 yards.  He excels in tracking; nose to the ground and in high gear".

Tucker is tall 26" and strongly built (75 lbs).  He has a big blocky head, typical of a big German male.  He is playful and doesn't have and aggressive bone in his body and is a very inquisitive dog.

Tucker's hips were rated fair-good at 19 months from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Canada (WCVM #RC1116).

Thunder Ridge's "A" Litter

Congratulations to our 3 Thunder Ridge "A" litter pups and their handlers who ran and all passed their NAVHDA Natural Ability Test.

Joe Cavanaugh & Alex
98/112 Prize III

Dick Hale & Altessa
107/112 Prize II

Marty Windsor & Abigail 94/112 Prize III

We appreciate your commitment to training and testing.  Way to go!

Our "A" litter was born on March 8, 2006.  An import, Aron von Grinzing, owned by Curt & Romy Shreve of Snowy Oaks Kennel was the sire.  Alli delivered 9 healthy pups.  Six males and three females.  See our PUPPY PAGE for more details & pictures.

Working Style

Alli is a methodical hunter, works close and is responsive and eager to please.  She points with head and tail high.  She shows a lot of desire and uses her nose very effectively, frequently finding birds that other dogs have missed!

She has a strong natural retrieve and soft mouth, delivering birds to hand from land or water.  Although she is hunted primarily on upland game, Alli is a very strong swimmer and loves the water.  If there’s a puddle, she’s in it and often takes a dip in our ornamental pond.

Breeding Requirements
The following requirements for breeding must be met for LM pups to receive full registration:

1)  Both dam and sire must have qualified in a NAVHDA Natural Ability test or its equivalent.

2)  Both dogs must be free of genetic defects, including hip dysplasia.

3)  Both dogs must be true to the breed standard.

4)  Both dogs must have normal temperament.

5)  Neither parent may be gunshy.

In addition, all matings are approved by the LMCNA breed warden who calculates the inbreeding coefficient of all eligible males to an eligible female.

Natural Ability Testing
LMCNA and its breeders encourage Natural Ability field testing of their pups through NAVHDA or the new Versatile Hunting Dog Federation (VHDF).  Performance testing allows breeders to evaluate matings for the betterment of these fine dogs.  See LMCNA's website for more testing information.

We and LMCNA will provide new puppy owners with support and information about NAVHDA & VHDF Natural Ability testing.
