DD-782 was the fourth U.S. warship to be named in honor of Vice Admiral Stephan C. Rowan. She was a Gearing Class FRAM I Destroyer serving her country from 1945 to 1976.

The USS Rowan (DD-782) was a unit of Destroyer Squadron Fifteen (DESRON 15) for many years including the squadron's forward deployment to Yokokuska in October 1971.
