Preparing for Lift-Off

This page presents a few ideas to make your trip more beneficial for you. It contains suggestions for setting the space and tone in ways you may find helpful in preparing for traveling. This is not designed to take you anywere so much as it is meant to help you prepare a space where it'll be easier to get into a calm, meditative state so that your journey will be more useful to you.

First there are a few things to attend to in the material realm. In other words, you want your body to be as comfortable as you can be. You don’t want the distraction of a seam in your shirt or a pair of too-tight pants to stifle your ability to relax. And you definitely want your feet to be comfortable. Too tight or otherwise uncomfortable shoes can cause no end of misery. Slippers and loose clothing may be the best approach, and especially if you have “special” clothes you may want to wear them. Make this an event.

You want to pick out a comfortable place to be. Some people like to sit up straight, or in a recliner. Others prefer to lie on a couch, sofa or bed. Others may prefer the floor. In all these settings it is very important to make sure you have enough pillows to arrange around and under yourself to feel luxurious and totally at ease. You may also want to have a blanket or afghan handy if you tend to get chilled being in one position for awhile.

You’ll want to make sure there will be no external things that will draw your attention. Unplug your phone, put a sign on your door that says “Do Not Disturb” ( if you’re in a place where that might be an issue). Make sure the dishwasher, washing machine or dryer are off. Turn down the lights, and if necessary close the curtains or blinds to create a muted atmosphere.

Some people like to have music playing. This is a mixed issue. You definitely do not want music with lyrics. But even more so you do not want music that is in discord to the trip you are taking. If you’re quietly trying to talk to a new spirit guide and the music is beginning to soar with passion it may be too much dissonance. On the other hand music that is primarily made of natural sounds may be perfect. Then again it may throw you off as well. So, unless you have music you are sure will not disrupt your experience I really recommend no music at all.

You may want to light a few candles and let them be your sole light source. Be sure that if they are scented that they will not cause you any allergic problems. The same is true for incense. Light and smell both have powerful effects on our nervous systems so if you use them please choose them with care and be sure they will help rather than hinder.

This takes care of the physical set-up. You can add any personal touches that youy think will help you - an object that is meaningful to you or somethng that makes the space seem sacred perhaps. So go ahead and get yourself into a comfortable position and get ready to start traveling into your mind. Just turn the page and get ready to relax….
