Randy K. Smith, of Hazlehurst, MS successfully completed his Black Belt Pre-Test, along with many other candidates, representing four HanMuDo schools across the state.  The testing was held on October 24, 2009, on the Copiah-Lincoln Community College campus in Wesson.  Randy was invited to Baton Rouge, Louisiana on November 6, 2009 to complete his Black Belt test before a panel of high-ranking HanMuDo, Hapkido, Judo, Taekwondo, and Tang Soo Do Black Belt judges.  He and his partner, D’Quavius Tanner, also of Hazlehurst, represented Triple Black Belt Academy during both tests.  Randy participated in the weekend seminar that followed Black Belt testing.  He was awarded his 1st Dan Jr. Black Belt by the World HanMuDo Association, on Sunday, November 8, 2009 at the close of the two day seminar celebrating the 20th anniversary of HanMuDo.  Randy is the third from Hazlehurst Middle School, to receive this honor, with the World HanMuDo Association.  He is the sixth student of Triple Black Belt Academy, to receive Black Belt ranking with the World HanMuDo Association.  Randy began his training in Ishinryu, at the age of 4.  He began training closer to home in March 2006.  An extra special thank you goes out to Randy’s grandfather, Mr. Oscar Tanner, for his support during this Black Belt journey.  Awesome Job, Randy! Congratulations!

We will teach our students with the same high standards that we ourselves were taught with.  The martial art style that we teach is Han Mu Do.  Han Mu Do is a traditional Korean martial art that was founded by Dr. He-Young Kimm in 1989.  Dr. Kimm created Han Mu Do after more than forty years of accumulating knowledge and training in the Korean martial arts systems.  A true martial arts scholar, he sought to integrate the techniques and philosophies of these styles into a single comprehensive balanced system.  For a detailed history of Han Mu Do, please visit the World Han Mu Do Association website at http://www.hanmudo.com

Why Take Martial Arts?

If you were to ask martial arts students why they take martial arts, you would undoubtedly hear many different answers.  The popularity of martial arts is due to the many  benefits of being involved in martial arts training.  Each of the martial arts students  may start out looking for a certain benefit, but in the end, the students discover that they are gaining so much more than the original benefit intended.

Respect:  One of the most famous of benefits of martial arts training is to learn respect.  Respect of those with greater knowledge and experience.  Respect of elders.  Respect of individuals.  The martial arts lead to greater self-respect in the student.  Self-respect is the basic stepping stone for respect for all other living things.

Social Skills:  Children who participate in the martial arts will have positive interaction with other children.  The martial arts environment is one that promotes the spirit of comradeship.   Students in the martial arts are taught to get along with others, to respect others and never to be abusive or offensive.  Martial arts training builds character  in the student.    Self-confidence and enthusiasm for your own life is gained.    A new attitude is born.

Self-Defense:  Through Martial Arts training you not only learn how to cope with confrontations, but also how to avoid confrontations using your common sense, proper body language and street smarts.  Martial Arts training builds coordination, balance, control and fitness.

Mental Discipline:  Having mental discipline affects your attitude and the decisions you make in life.  Martial arts can teach you how to relax, focus and maintain your control when life becomes difficult.  The martial arts encourage students to practice good behavior skills and to set good examples for others.  Children with strong mental discipline are least likely to be susceptible to peer pressure anxieties, while adults learn to manage stress levels brought on by life’s pressures.

Better School Grades:  The martial arts helps to develop memory skills and responsibility.  A reward system will encourage Academic Achievement and goal setting.  Students will learn better self-discipline , self-confidence, respect and to focus their attention.

FUN:  And of course, let's not forget about FUN !!!  Martial arts training is a physical activity that allows the student to have fun while getting a work out both mentally and physically.    Martial arts training helps the student feel the stress melt away.  There is success to be  found even for those with no experience.
