SHIVA LINGAM

This Shiva Lingam is about 11 1/2" tall and 5 1/2" wide. It weighs 22 pounds. It is flanked with a 12" Corintos crystal on the left and a 14" Lemurian on the right. The center forefront is a large Amethyst crystal. I am fascinated with the history of the Shiva Lingam. I waited till I could find one with very special markings.

This photo is taken at my chart table. I had to find a suitable platter to hold the weight and provide nice visual appeal. I found a wonderful platter in the local metaphysical book and crystal shop. It was made in Mexico with a 6 sided star and beautiful colored scales. I used washed white aquarium gravel for support and placed on of my favorite Branberg phantom crystals in all 6 points. You can see the Faeries and Dream Catchers are gathered around.

Narmada Shiva Lingams

Facts & History

In Sanskrit these rare and sacred stones are called Namadeshvara or "Lord of the Narmada". They are found only in the riverbed of India's Narmada river; one of the seven places of divine pilgrimage in India, and an inlet of the sacred Ganges.

The stones are harvested only during India's dry season before the monsoon when the river is low. Local people go to the river with oxen and rope to pry out the larger stones. They are then carefully cleaned and hand polished. Only about thirty very large stones are removed per year. Their natural elongated egg shape is considered masculine, and the deep markings are feminine. They are revered as extremely sacred stones with the perfect balance of male/female energy, and are the same shape as Shiva's third-eye marking in his forehead; thus the name Shiva Lingam.

Throughout time these stones have been carefully selected from the Narmada by a few families, trained in the ancient art of gathering, shaping and polishing the stones to bring out the natural feminine markings called yoni spots. The lingams are always handled in accordance with ancient Vedic tradition, and are thus highly blessed.

They are harvested more frequently now than at any other time in history. This is because of the desperate state of the planet. The Lingams generate balancing energy, elevate soul consciousness, and are extremely healing. You could say they are impregnated with divine rays that resonate with the 5th Chakra (Heart Chakra). Their particular purpose in healing the planet is through helping to open hearts, as well as heal pains in the heart that bring imbalance. They are also said to enable one to better know the compassionate soul within.

According to the ancient Vedic knowledge, the Lingam represents the inner being. It is said to have the energy shape of the soul, or the essence of a human being. One could say that the signature of our souls has been alchemically embedded in the stone down throughout time during its creation in the caress of Mother Earth.

Healing Qualities

Shiva lingam stones draw out our core, soul qualities. Because of this, they are a strong force for healing and meditation. Some experiences reported have been tingling and warmth, rushing energy up and down the body, and spontaneous clarity in the face of confusion. There can also be a release of energy where there was once a blockage, and very often, activation of the Heart Chakra with the accompanying blissful experiences of self-love, self-worth, joy, contentment, unconditional love, and overall compassion for all beings.

These stones are a passion of ours, possibly due to their remarkable ability to calm the nervous system and heighten the vibration of any space. Though appearing dense and rock-like, they are actually micro-crystalline quartz. These stones have the highest vibrational frequency of any crystal on earth. To hold one, you would know this to be true, as they seem to have a presence of their own and can become highly addictive!

How They Formed You may be asking, "Where did these unusual stones come from, and why are they only found in one location on earth?" Some individuals believe they were placed there by Shiva himself, and others believe they are extraterrestrial in nature. In India, it is told that millions of years ago a meteorite collided with the earth at what is now the source of the Narmada River in Madhya Pradesh, a mountainous province approximately 300 miles northeast of Bombay, India. The tremendous heat caused by the collision of the meteorite caused a fusion of the ambient rock and meteoric material.

Over time, a river began flowing through this area and the combination of these factors produced the unique condition in which pieces of the fused matter, revolving in the river bed over thousands of years, take on a distinctly uncommon ovoid form. The interesting fact is that the oval form is quite different from the flat, round rocks normally appearing in riverbeds.
