Wright expressed the path of the summer sun in a decorative motif that is found in the stonework of the view room floor. This
motif is of the diagonal line shown as two flagstones that are split diagonally, then joined together to form a rectangle.
The diagonal split in the two stones is a representation of the sunbeams passing through Graycliff. The mortar joint actually
points towards the sun at sunset. The stone hearths of all three fireplaces also carry the signature motif of the diagonal.

.

The sun is just one of many aspects that links this summer house with its environment. Wright was masterful
at both realizing his clients needs and at creating a structure that is organic to its site. Frank Lloyd Wright's genius at
design is found throughout the complex of buildings at Graycliff.
Public guided tours are conducted at Graycliff during the spring, summer and fall on Saturday and Sunday.
The Friday "Sunset" tour is given in the summer months only. Reserve your tour by calling the Graycliff Conservancy at 716-947-9217.
