Current BEAC Designs

In 1993 the BEAC moved to a common design for notes of all member countries with only a code letter identifying the country of issue - the same system used by the West African States and earlier by the Equatorial African States. The year of issue has been incorporated into the first two digits of the serial numbers and the use of block numbers eliminated. Unlike the new West African notes, the signatures have remained on the face. Oher than the code letters, the only variation is that the Cameroun ("E") notes carry the signature of the Cameroun censeur and all other notes use the signature of the Gabon censeur. A new color scheme was adopted with the 500 franc being blue-brown, the 1000 green, the new 2000 denomination orange, the 5000 reddish-brown, and the 10000 dark blue. The example below is a 1997 Chad 10000 francs.
