This 500 francs note first issued in 1949 is my personal favorite of all French African issues. It has softer colors than the other notes, and the engraving detail makes it a true art masterpiece. The same note was issued with overprints in numerous French colonies; it also exists in a reduced size as a 1960's French Antilles note. While not a major rarity, it is now seldom available in any grade and probably underpriced at $525 in UNC.
