Concave Spine Binding
Saturday & Sunday,
8:30 am to 5:30 pm both days
Contact Wendy to schedule...
I first saw this binding demonstrated at Bookbinding 2000 in Rochester, NY, by James Brockman. His binding had a rigid
spine and this one is more flexible.
This is a great binding for journalling because all the pages open flat. Pages will be Hahnemühle Biblio; size will be
approximately 10 x 10 inches.
Cost: $130 plus $35 for materials.
We will also discuss guarding signatures -- to make room for pasting in ephemera -- and pockets.
Boxes and More Boxes!
Saturday & Sunday, August 16th & 17th
8:30 am to 5:30 pm both days
We will make a couple of box structures in this class. On Saturday, we will do a jewel box with a tray using a technique
that allows us to match the paper pattern between the lid and the box.
On Sunday, we will construct a clamshell large enough to hold 8 1/2 x 11 inch papers. If time permits, we will also cover
a slipcase as well.
Cost: $130, plus $15 for materials

Sewn on Cords Binding
Saturday & Sunday
8:30 am to 5:30 pm both days
May be offered in November, if not then, then in January
A new take on an old binding... In the workshop we will create a binding of pages 5 7/8 x 8 inches sewn on five hemp cords.
It will have a quarter leather spine with paper-covered boards. If we have time, we will do sewn headbands.
These are quite flexible, tight-back bindings and make wonderful and impressive looking journals. We'll use 140gsm Hahnemühle
Schiller for the text block.
Cost: $130 plus $30 for materials.

Leather Inlay and Onlay
Saturday & Sunday,
8:30 am to 5:30 pm both days
Contact Wendy to set a date for this workshop this fall
Have fun learning how to work with leather. We will do inlays, onlays and overlays. You will need a very simple design
filling less that a 3 x 5 inch area and several copies of it to play with. Both the Scharfix parer and various knives will
be used.
On Saturday, we will play with the leather and on Sunday we will construct and cover a jewel box -- materials will be
precut -- and then cover the cover with a technique of your choice.
Cost: $130, plus $10 for materials
