SEVEN PLAYS IN SEVEN DAYS n.u.f.a.n. ensemble,
Chicago – July 20, 2009 Writer: “Wet Work” On a Monday in
July, actors will audition and be cast in seven wholly original plays. During
the week, they will meet to rehearse, and on the following Monday the doors
will open and close on another chapter in n.u.f.a.n.’s popular one-act
festival. SOIREÉ DADA: SCHMÜCK DIE HALLEN WNEP
Theater, Writer: “The Gift” Bringing DADA sentiment to the holidays, WNEP Theater deconstructs the holiday season only to use creative freedom
and the human imagination to rebuild it. In this highly original presentation, the largest Soirée Dada cast ever will continue
to confront the audience with irrationality, chance, and humor, offering (and occasionally forcing upon) their guests the
opportunity to participate on an active level. There will be a tree and presents, too. RAW:
THE WRITE CLUB SAMPLER WNEP Theater, Writer: “Boxing
St. Stephens” RAW is three evenings of short plays, scenes and monologues written by members of WNEP’s
WRITE CLUB, a group of writers that congregate once a month at the Uptown Writer’s Space and lead by WNEP Artistic Director
Jen Ellison. "Boxing St. Stephens" is now on You-Tube! Check it out! WOOD STREET THEATER SHORT PLAY FESTIVAL Wood Street Theater,
Palatine, IL - April 8-9, 2006 The best of new work from local writers,
Wood Street Theater Short Play Festival brings together a variety of comedies, dramas, musicals and radio pieces for a completely
unique experience. ARMAGEDDON RADIO HOUR WNEP Theater, The Armageddon
Radio Hour takes place in a tiny radio
studio in an American metropolis sometime between 1943 and 1945. It was a time when radio was king and the sponsors ruled
the airwaves. Programs like Amos and Andy, The Bickersons, and Lights Out were all the rage and President Franklin Delano Roosevelt held the nation in his palm with his
regular fireside chats. It also takes place on the eve of
what some say is the end of the planet. It seems that rumors have been spreading that DUNBAR®, a monopolistic corporation
that manufactures everything from gum to GWAT®, has inadvertently set off a chemical chain reaction that will level the very
Earth, leaving only a scorched cinder floating in space. And it's a comedy! UNCLE DICKIE’S WICKED LITTLE CHRISTMAS TANTA Productions, Writer: “Jerry Springer: I’m Having God’s Baby!” A night of alternative holiday fun, this year Uncle Dickie's Wicked Little Chrismas showcases
yuletide one-acts by an impious set of brazen writers who turn the holidays upside down! Jenny Seidelman pays a visit to Jerry
Springer (Jerry Springer: I'm Having God's Baby!); matters of the heart preoccupy Patrick Gabridge (Christmas Breaks) and
Terry Baum (Chanukah Butch); a talking razor for Christmas mystifies Werner Trieschmann (Close Shave); and James Venhaus's
receptionist just won't take another call (Happy Holidays from Anderson, Davis, Seton and Fenner). And the fun doesn't stop
there. CHRISTMAS MY ASS (REDUX) WNEP Theater, Continuing WNEP's own tradition of
shredding the candy coatioff of the most revered holiday, Christmas My Ass (redux) is
an absurdist trashing of “the most wonderful time of the year” …a 75-minute rollercoaster ride humbugging
everything from It’s a Wonderful
Life to the faux altruism that coincides
with the “suicide” holiday. GIRLFRIENDS Winner, Beth desperately
wants to have children but is unable. She is also unable to finish her latest novel, having gained critical success with her
previous writing, and she cannot find her way out of her unfulfilling marriage and unsatisfying teaching jobs. When she learns
that a former friend has died, leaving behind a child, Beth is forced to make decisions about her own life, and to create
closure on the turbulent relationship she had had with the child's mother. PRODIGAL DAUGHTER
Inspired
by the song Prodigal Daughter/ Cotton
Eye Joe by
Michelle Shocked. Rachel Bliss has never lead a conventional
life, at least, according to her mother. Amidst a community of artists, poets
and dreamers, she comes in contact with the Prodigal Son. The play examines
society's expectations of women's sexuality, and asks the question, what
happens to the woman who meets the Prodigal Son and how will she, in turn, be
treated when she becomes the Prodigal Daughter?
