BIOGRAPHY
Jenny Seidelman’s plays have received staged readings at
Chicago Dramatists, Around the Coyote, The Illegitimate Arts Festival, TADA! Theater Company in New York and
her alma mater, Knox College, where she was a three-time winner of the
Davenport Award for Playwriting. Her plays for young people, A Crime in a Rhyme
and Searching for Him, are published by
TADA! Theater. A Crime in a Rhyme and Another Sparrow Flies were produced at the Children's Theater of
Western Springs. Her short play Wet
Work was produced as part of n.u.f.a.n. ensemble’s Seven Plays in Seven Days festival, her radio crime drama Dr. Mysterious was seen at Wood St. Theater's
short play festival and her piece Jerry Springer: I’m Having God’s
Baby!
was produced by TANTA Productions in San Francisco. She was commissioned by
Northlight Theatre to write a script for their Performing Arts Camp and by
Chicago director Lavina Jadhwani to adapt Antoine de Saint Exupéry’s The Little
Prince. She is a company member of WNEP Theater in Chicago. For
WNEP, she co-wrote Dirty Bible Stories
with Seth Fisher and Dave Stinton and contributed to Armageddon Radio Hour New Years Eve, Christmas My Ass (redux), RAW: a Write Club Sampler, and Soireé Dada
Schmuck Die Hallen. Her poetry has been read at Great Beast Theater, Messenger
Theatre Company, the Gwendolyn Brooks Spoken Word Poetry Contest and WNEP
Theater's The Gong Show. In 2000 she
won the International Wizard of Oz Club's Otto Award for Short Fiction. She holds a B.A. in English Writing from Knox College and a
M.A.M. in Performing Arts from Columbia College Chicago. As an arts
administrator and fundraiser, she has worked with Emerald City Theatre Company,
Lyric Opera of Chicago and the Goodman Theatre. Jenny is a supporter of Amnesty International,
A.C.L.U., Planned Parenthood, N.O.W., Heifer International, and other human
rights and social service organizations.
