Rev. Donald Wildmon He may not have a thing for the boys, but he definitely loves to boycott. Since the late 1970s, the Reverend Donald Wildmon and his Mississippi-based American Family Association have blasted TV programs he didn't like by boycotting their sponsors. What he especially hates is sexy pictures, naughty words and any form of misbehaving. I hope he doesn't have cable. In 1989 he attacked the TV miniseries Lonesome Dove for 32 uses of the word "hell," 31 "damns," 30 "whores" and 11 "pokes" (meaning, to screw). Most guys sit in their La-Z-Boys clicking on a remote. Donald uses a calculator. Then he led a boycott against Murphy Brown advertisers when the show poked fun at Dan Quayle for his jabs at Murphy's unwed pregnancy. I guess that was mean of Murphy to pick on little Danforth just because he's slow. He also lobbied against NYPD Blue (the butt shots) and Disney (Disney World's Gay Day). And don't get him started on Ellen. He said the show's coming-out episode was intended to suggest that being gay is acceptable. "The producers wrapped their social message in humor. People's guards are down when they're laughing." Apparently not having a sense of humor came in handy when Donald co-chaired Pat Buchanan's 1996 campaign. I mean, what a joke that was! |
