Republican National Committee

In 1996, a former party fund-raiser filed a $21.5 million lawsuit against the Republican National Committee, the GOP's national headquarters.   The charge:  that party headquarters was teeming with obscenities, lewd behavior, racism and gay-bashing.

Deborah Henson's lawsuit claimed the RNC's work environment was hostile to women, gays, Jews and other minorities.   Two other former consultants supported her claims in affidavits.

The RNC denied the allegations, insisting they fired Deborah in 1995 for using foul language.

But she said RNC officials called female workers "bitches" and a young data clerk a "whiny Jew boy."   Women, she said, got preferential treatment if they allowed themselves to be "touched in a sexual manner."

Also, a deputy finance director referred to her young male assistants as "butt boys" and made one of them bend over in front of her to pick up a pencil she intentionally dropped.   He obeyed and wiggled his butt.

One director entertained the staff by strutting around theatrically doing his "gay-boy" act.   Another mocked blacks by doing a derogatory gangster rap impersonation.

I always wondered what Republicans did for fun.   Now I know.
